We may all feel great satisfaction for this first big step towards a real and effective preservation of the last sand dune areas in the municipality of Marbella: the rehabilitation and preservation work underway in the above mentioned sand dunes.
The Ministry of the Environment through the andalusian Coastal Demarcation office are the Authorities that have set underway this much expected and yearned for work that our Association have been demanding for years. As known, every year the Association is carrying out environmental education programs in the sand dune areas of Marbella, working with the Hon. Town Hall of Marbella and with Marbella’s and other regions high schools pupils through days of eradication of the invasive alien plants, the Highway Ice plant (Carpobrotus edulis).
Reeds and Coojong (Acacia Saligna) are invading the sand dune areas with great virulence, which exceeds the capacity of our Association. Therefore, the support of the relevant authorities with machinery is necessary to rehabilitate the natural vegetation and then carrying out a programme for replanting native seedlings (3.000), once the rainy season starts, to ensure the survival of this flora.
Wooden railings and pedestrian walkways to the beach will highlight the sand dune nature and ensure the survival of these beautiful sand dunes.
These projects now underway are a living example of the rehabilitation that will be carried out in the remaining sand dune areas that we are demanding to be preserved and protected, between Marbella and the Natural Monument “Artola” in Cabopino. |

THE SEASON OF GUIDED WALKS THROUGH THE DUNES “LA ADELFA” IN BAHIA DE MARBELLA COMES TO AN END
One type of activities programmed by the Pro Dunas Association within the framework of environmental education is to organize guided tours through the dunes “La Adelfa” in Bahía de Marbella.
On Friday, October 14th, the third edition of this activity
jointly organized and enlivened by Pro Dunas and Club 3000 in Paris has come
to an end with the valued presence of the Councillor for the Environment of
the Hon. Town Hall of Marbella, Mr. Antonio Espada Durán who who highlighted
the importance of the dunes protection and guided walks. |

A NEW PROJECT IS BORN:
Within the framework of the protection and preservation of the sand dunes
areas in the municipality of Marbella, the Pro Dunas Association have
submitted to the relevant authorities a new project for the rehabilitation
and conservation of the “Alicate” sand dunes on the Alicate beach, flanked
by the beach restaurants “Los Cano” and “Los Sardinales”. This sand dunes area belongs to the habitats of interest to the European Union, code 2120, so it is essential to preserve it, and maintain it as a new added value for the Natural Heritage of the municipality of Marbella. Currently there is substantial sand dunes degradation due to the invasion of the reed (Arundo donax) that has completely displaced the native flora. This new initiative of environmental conservation includes several projects to be undertaken: |
foto by andaluz.tv |
|
- Total eradication of all alien invasive plants and subsequent reforestation with native young seedlings to rehabilitate the sand dunes physiognomy, with the technical support of the Provincial Office of the Environment and the Hon. Town hall of Marbella. - Fencing of the sand dunes with a wooden fence with pedestrian access to the beach from the surrounding residential areas, to prevent the deterioration of the sand dunes due to unauthorized motorized traffic and human pressure.
- Setback of the drainage towards the area of the Transit Easement between
the streams “Siete Revueltas” and “Alicate” in order to be awarded the
tourism excellence award for this area and given priority by the County
Council and Association of Municipalities of the Western - Information Posters as a means of promoting awareness among beach users. - Facilities for beach users: Lifeguards station and Civil protection – WC – showers – access ramp for the disabled and so on.
This is an ambitious project with all the novelties it involves aimed at improving the area of Alicate for beach users, and we trust it will be fully supported by all the relevant Authorities as well as the Town hall of Marbella. |

16th August –
36º38’083N / 043º23’149W
Our Association has had the privilege to be invite to participate in the release of 5 sea-turtles (Caretta caretta), having spent several months in captivity at the ”Aula del Mar” recovering from multiple injuries.
This event has had the valuable presence of the political leadership of the Regional Government of Andalucia, with the participation of the president of the Junta de Andalucia, José Antonio Griñan, the Regional Minister for the Environment of the Junta de Andalucía, José Juan Díaz Trillo, the Provincial Delegate of the Environment, Francisco Fernández España, as well as the Delegate of the Regional Government of Andalucia, Remedios Martel Gómez, among other politicians.
It is always moving to see the joy at the moment of the release of turtles or even dolphins and how fast they want to return to their natural habitat. The release of any cetaceans or turtles is the source of great satisfaction for those involved in their recovery while in care.
Turtles are under high threat by various causes such as the destruction of their habitat, pollution and fishing nets, and so forth. Their survival depends on all of us. |

SUMMER EVENT 2011 Guided tour through the dunes “LA ADELFA” - Bahía de Marbella – for our members Thursday, 11th August
As a “Loyalty Prize” we organized this special event for our members who supported during these 7 years all management of the Association in their battle to save, preserve and protect the Natural Heritage of the dunes areas in the Municipality of Marbella.
The walk through the sand dunes has been developed with entertaining and short explanations on the native flora we all have the privilege to enjoy throughout the year. The flora is growing beautifully in these sand dunes, thanks to the care it has received over the past few years. We also maked a special mention of the other plants introduced 6 years ago, who have found their ideal habitat in these sand dunes area. A short explanation was given to the importance of eradicating invasive alien plants due to their huge and negative capacity to displace all other wild vegetation.
Our thanks to our members! |

A BREAK FOR THE COSTA DEL SOL – NO TO HYDROCARBON EXPLORATIONS
Repsol’s intention to carry out prospecting for gas and oil along the coastline of Malaga has been met with the outright rejection from municipalities, fishermen, environmental organizations, businesses and the political parties of the province, as well as the governmental bureaucracy.
As can be gathered from Repsol’s press releases, the Ministry for the
Environment remains silent on the environmental impact study submitted by
the company back in June 2010 on the implementation of the Sirocco Project
which consist of the drilling of the seabed off the coast of Mijas and
Fuengirola to verify the existence of a major biogenic
The delay of the approval of the environmental impact statement by the Ministry for the Environment has cut short the initial plans of the multinational company, who had planned to perform the surveys between January and May of the current year 2011, to avoid the tourist high season, the migratory birds passage and cetaceans breeding season.
Given the delay of the relevant resolutions, Repsol has made a major shift in its plans and taken all the logistics that had been prepared for drilling in Malaga, including the semi-submersible platform to be moved from Malta, to Moroccan waters, where it will remain until June to carry out two surveys off Tangier’s coast.
Current legislation provides that, once the complete dossier has been submitted, the resolution must be delivered within three months, thus in the case of the Sirocco Project it should take place before the 7th of May 2011.
We are confident that the Costa del Sol will remain a “location free from hydrocarbon exploration”.

On the 1st of April 2011 the Central Government will transfer the powers for the management of the coastal areas of Andalusia to the Regional Government of Andalusia. These new responsibilities assigned to the regional government, will entail, among others, the direct intervention on the beach restaurants on the Costa del Sol.
We are deeply concerned that this transfer of powers could lead, once more, to abuses by the Regional Government of Andalusia to establish a larger number of beach restaurants, both in the Maritime and Terrestrial Public Domain (DPMT) and the Protection Easement, with the excuse of it being essential for tourism on the Costa del Sol. Therefore, new authorizations would cause the loss of more dunes areas on the andalusian coast.
Moved by this deep concern, several letters have been addressed to all the relevant authorities urging the Andalusian Regional Government to respect the sand dune areas where projects for actions are already underway, |

with special mention about our efforts as an Association that started back in 2004 for the defence of the sand dune area "La Adelfa" in Bahia de Marbella.
At the time, this unique site that was the "target" of strong financial interests that were lobbying for the approval of licenses for 3 beach restaurants and a Beach Club with swimming pools and restaurant.
Long years of countless negotiations were necessary to convince the various authorities, that protection of nature also attracts high quality tourism and particularly eco-tourism, thus creating wealth for the villages and towns and therefore new jobs.
We therefore demand that the few remaining sand dunes areas in the Costa del Sol must be protected against attempts to give “carte blanche” for new licences or concessions by the relevant authority.
We won’t let go to waste all our achievements and past efforts to protect this!

STARTING THE WORKS AT “EL BARRONAL DE LA MORENA” – Las Chapas/El Rosario
The Town Planning office assures us that the project is fully consistent
with all that was agreed in the many meetings held with the City Council
during the winter-spring 2009-2010 and the promises of the other authorities
involved. Therefore, approximately 1/3 of sand dune vegetation remains safe
of any development. In the lower area, the Coastal Demarcation Authority
have defined the Maritime and Terrestrial Public Domain (D.P.M.T.) by means
of boundary stones and the pedestrian path (6m) by means of “windchaser".
We trust our politicians and we hope we do not have to mobilize protests
during the future development works. |

Only 10 miles offshore from the Coast of Malaga, between Fuengirola - Punta Calaburra and Marbella new seismic prospectings are planned to look for gas and oil! Even an oil rig is expected to be placed for those prospectings.
Our opposition to such seismic prospectings is clearly to defend the preservation of the marina fauna and flora as they are a potential threat for the ecosystems maritime and -seaside. Several studies have shown that seismic surveys are absolutely incompatible with marine life for their physical, physiological and behavioural effects on the species inhabiting the areas where they are performed, and within migratory paths of dolphins and fisheries. We can confirm that in the planned area of intervention several dolphin families of all ages have their habitat, and they can easily be spotted from the shore as their diary course is perpendicular to the coast. These colonies of cetaceans would be directly affected by prospectings campaigns. |
STATE OF ALARM FOR THE COSTA DEL SOL COASTLINE
|
Back in the year 2005, our Association had to intervene both at the Naval Command as at the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce in reference to the seismic prospectings campaigns carried out by the “Atlantic Explorer” ship, because of the inevitable environmental, social and financial impacts that such oil prospecting could entail for Marbella and the Costa del Sol.
Back then, seismic prospectings were conducted at the following coordinates:
A: 004º 55’ 43,66’’ W - 36º 28’ 56,03’’ N B: 004º 25’ 12,38’’ W - 36º 29’ 22,48’’ N C: 004º 25’ 02.73’’ W - 36º 20’ 53,16’’ N D: 004º 55’ 30,61’’ W - 36º 20’ 27,78’’ N
Our letters of complaint are addressed to all competent Authorities, requiring them to ensure the general interest of all citizens, by preventing any unsustainable damage to be caused along the shoreline of the Costa del Sol.
Well-kept beaches and preserved nature attract quality tourism, ensuring the welfare of all.

WE REQUEST PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT FOR THE SAND DUNES AREAS ALONG THE COST OF MARBELLA
Even if the year 2010 came to an end having brought much satisfaction to the Association, and thus to all citizens, for the achievements we reached and the collaboration we received from the Administrations and the Hon. Town Hall of Marbella during the past year, there still is a lot to do.
The media repercussions have been strong and the support of the press to the incessant labour of our Association in favour of the defence and preservation of the few sand dunes area that still survive in the Municipality of Marbella, is unwavering.
Nevertheless, the financial crisis has also harmed the development of the promised actions in the projects undertaken directly by our Association and regrettably the delays in the starting of several projects are noticeable. In short we must mention the following affected dunes areas, which actually have no current date to be carried out and are still pending, although the plans of these projects exists already:
· Dunas “La Adelfa” – Bahía de Marbella · Dunas “El Barronal de la Morena” – Alicate · Dunas “La Víbora” – Elviria · Dunas “Las Chapas” – Elviria · Dunas “Real de Zaragoza y Tiempo libre” – Elviria · Dunas Artola – Monumento Natural – Cabopino-Calahonda
The negotiations of our Association are efficient and necessary – thus we will continue to be the defenders of the sand dunes enclaves with the help of everybody.

DEMARCATION OF BOUNDARIES WITH MARKERS ALONG THE COAST AND DUNES OF MARBELLA
The Coastal Demarcation Authority Andalucía-Mediterráneo is carrying out the signalling of the Maritime Terrestrial Public Domain (D.P.M.T.) along the coast of Marbella through the placement of markers (white concrete poles with D.P.M.T. identification marks).
This is very good news for our citizens, as with these markers make clearly visible and highlight the boundaries, which are already approved by law, clearly signalling the authenticity of the coastal and dunes protection. |

ECO-TOURISM ON THE COAST OF MARBELLA GUIDED TOURS AROUND THE SAND DUNES “LA ADELFA” OF BAHÍA DE MARBELLA
For the second consecutive summer, the collaboration between the Pro-Dunas Association and the French Tourism Agency, has had once more a resounding success, as it shows that the foreign tourists want to experience new sensations, besides sunshine and beach during their summer holidays in our region.
This new eco- tourism seeks closeness to nature through these meetings with the natural environment in the sand dunes of Marbella. The guided tours have been welcomed with great enthusiasm by the participants; and the didactic introduction to the rich wildlife, fauna and flora, has given them a new impetus, raising their awareness about the need to protect and preserve the last dunes on the coast of Marbella.

Four long years have been necessary for the sea turtle (Caretta Caretta turtle), named “Adelfa” by the Association Pro Dunas in honour of the place where she had been found by a pleasure boat, close to the beach “La Adelfa” of Bahía de Marbella in Marbella and rescued from a certain death, to have been given the “green light” by the veterinaries of the “Aula del Mar’ in Malaga to be released back at sea on the 23rd of July, together with another 4 turtles.
Thanks to the great professionalism and daily dedication at the hospital of Aula del Mar (CREMA) "Adelfa" has recovered from the major injury sustained in the shell, at the time presenting a huge fracture with bone loss, probably caused by a shark. Thanks to a tamponage with a high concentration of epibionts, and lepas sp (goose barnacles), she survived the impact of the bite.
We would like to thank the veterinaries team for the painstaking intensive care extended to "our" Adelfa, which, thanks to the care received during these long months, has grown new plastron. With a lovely weight of 76 kg (4 years ago she was barely 32 kg) she has found again the way to her natural habitat - the sea. This important event, the leading of the turtles to their freedom, has been attended both by the Minister of the Environment of the Junta de Andalucía, Mr. José Juan Diaz Trillo as well as the Provincial Delegate of the Ministry of the Environment, Mrs. Remedios Martel Gómez and the directors and veterinarians of the Aula del Mar, and members of the Association Pro Dunas. TV cameras and the press have been able to attend this event, at sea.

More than 50 students of the first grade of Higher Secondary Education and some of the second grade of Secondary Education from the IES MARQUÉS DE COMARES Secondary School in Lucena (Cordoba), they have had the opportunity to spend a day on the beach right next to the Artola Natural Monument - Cabopino, as their end of school excursion.
In this natural setting, and in order to promote the transmission of knowledge on and respect for the environment, as well as to raise the awareness on the importance of preserving and protecting the few sand dunes eco-systems that are still left on the coast of Marbella, we have handed out to them some didactical documents on the Artola Natural Monument – Cabopino.
Members of our Association delivered a short presentation on the millenary formation of the dunes in the Mediterranean area, and explained to them the importance of protecting the indigenous flora and keeping intact the various eco-systems there are in this unique and interesting area of close to 20 hectares. |

WE PLEAD FOR CHANGE OF CRITERIA IN THE PROTECTION EASEMENT FOR THE LOSS OF BEACHES AND LOSS OF Maritime-Terrestrial Public Domain
We gather the testimony of a large number of citizens that are worried about the continuous loss of coastal area that they perceive as they stroll along the beach – some 13 km of seashore- from Cabopino (Artola Natural Monument) to the Rio Real stream.
At the request of residents, we covered this stretch of coast, and much to our dismay, we confirmed that it is indeed true that this stretch of coast is loosing its beaches and with them, the Maritime-Terrestrial Public Domain. In very few areas is there still enough Maritime-Terrestrial Public Domain to be protected under the Coastal Laws. The Public Domain is only spared there were it is some metres above the seashore, otherwise it is blurred with the beaches.
We suggest an immediate and necessary action from all the Administrations for this regrettable and irreparable phenomenon in this stretch of the coast of Marbella, caused mainly by currents and storms, as well as by abusive construction practices in the past. According to our study, new criteria must be set for the greenbelt between the sea and the developed areas. It is a fact: the advance of the sea is unstoppable. |
|
A good example is the annual loss of 1-2m of dunes mass in Bahia de Marbella, which we denounce year after year, demanding a final solution to counteract the loss of beaches. It is just a matter of time before the sea starts to gobble up the first buildings because of this lack of prevention criteria in the past. New and urgent guidelines for the Coastal Laws are necessary to guarantee the survival of the seashore, such as the location of the protection parameter in reference to the Protection Easement, in areas where it is still possible to rectify this. There are still areas where it is perfectly feasible to apply the Urban Development Laws of Andalucia of the Area of Influence Regulations (>500m).
We plead for a change of strategy in the protection of the coast, which would mean that all town councils, in this case the Town hall of Marbella, and all Regional Ministries of the “Junta de Andalucia”, in this case the Provincial Department of the Regional Ministry for the Environment, should apply the actual meaning of the word “protection” to the Protection Easement. That is, that this easement should be the red strip of “no man’s land” and be kept virgin, with all the wild nature intact, just as the seaside used to be formerly, filled with dunes thicket and Mediterranean pine trees as also little mammals and birds of prey. The latest events and positive results in the dunes area of “El Barronal de la Morena” are proof that with the good will of everyone, these protection criteria can very well be applied.
Therefore, and with a responsible forward-looking approach, we insist that no more authorization or licences for building should be granted within the Protection Easement, be they social Clubs, swimming pools, tennis courts, paddle courts or other any other facilities. These facilities should be included within the development areas in the future. In case there is a legal gap in the general application of the Coastal Laws, new demarcations should be drawn up, to counteract the loss of seaside areas and make room for new public spaces such as tracks and promenades.
We will applaud the involved Administrations that take our initiative in a positive light, as our proposal conveys the feelings of the citizens, who wish to see urgent action to save these sites of the coast and dunes areas where it is still possible to save them, and wish to see wooden fences being installed, as well as tracks that will heighten the protectionist value. |

IN SEARCH OF BALANCE BETWEEN NATURE AND DEVELOPMENT
September 2009 began with startling news for our Association. The dune “El Barronal de la Morena” was in danger of disappearing, which called for an immediate action. Our intervention and call to action were seconded and supported by several protectionist and political collectives. The overwhelming citizen participation and the numerous claims filed at the Administrative Authorities are proof of its effective worth.
Throughout the past months, numerous negotiations at the highest level and at various authorities have been necessary to prevent the total loss of this intact eco-system - including an Early Day Motion submitted at the Andalusian Parliament in Seville- so today we have one eye in tears and the other with a smile. The preservation of this dune, a jewel, demanded a lot of good will and perseverance, diplomacy and tactfulness in all fields, and it required great ecological understanding from all parties involved, considering that this dune had been dealt a loosing hand.
Eventually, and thanks to the joint effort of everyone, we have achieved the impossible: Find a balance between the total disappearance and the partial survival of a nature spot that was doomed to be gobbled down by the yoke of concrete as it is located in land available for development. Therefore, we must congratulate the citizens and friends of the dunes for the great support they showed. Without them, the task would have been so much harder. Yet, we must also congratulate the parties in opposition, such as: the Town Hall of Marbella who have played a central role in the coordination of the different moods, and the legal coordination of the various interests; the developers, Coastal Demarcation Authorities and the Provincial Department for the Environment.
Together, we have succeeded in protecting the valuable dune of Barronal de la Morena at Alicate beach (Marbella) as a Natural Heritage with all the rights to thrive once more on a third (approximately 25,000 m2) of the land initially destined to be developed. A rather difficult symbiosis has been established – aiming at a peaceful coexistence between nature and concrete - and stretching to the maximum the Coastal Laws. All that we have achieved must now be ratified in an amendment of the Draft Master Plan within the General Town Planning Scheme (PGOU) to guarantee its perfect legality.
Once this goal has been achieved, the various restoration actions can be started. The first measure to be taken is to enclose the dune on the width with a wooden banister between the dune area to be protected and the coming development, to prevent any motorized transgression that would harm the fragile ecosystem. Wooden footbridges will be installed to ease the pedestrian access to the beach. Within the context of Integral Coastal Management, the eradication of invasive plants will be carried out in order to prevent the displacement of the existing indigenous flora, and wild flowers will be replanted to erase any traces of the damages caused by the heavy machinery last year.
The sad episode we endured and the quick citizen action should be a wake-up call to the Administrative Authorities to realize that the Costa del Sol must not loose another metre of green area on its coastal zone. We wish that any future initiatives for the preservation be unconditionally supported and defended by the Town Hall and other Administrative Authorities involved. The people and the nature-loving tourist will no doubt be most thankful. |

COMPREHENSIVE PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND PRESERVATION OF THE DUNES SYSTEMS OF THE BEACHES “LA VÍBORA” AND “LAS CHAPAS”, ELVIRIA
In continuation of the line of preservation of dunes systems along the Andalusian Coast and gathering the voices of both residents and visitors, our Association have started the pertaining negotiations in the different Administrations and the City Council of Marbella, so that this beautiful dune, located on the beach La Vibora, Elviria, between the Beach-Restaurants “Perla Blanca” and “El Laurel” of approximately 1 km long, can be protected by installing wooden fences with accesses to the beach, to preserve the wild flora and thus boost the uniqueness of the existing eco-systems.
At the same time, this dune could well be included in the Environmental Education Programs that are presented to school children by the Town Hall of Marbella every year. Our youngsters will be able to follow up the first steps taken in favour of the environment, and these programs help raise awareness from a very young age. Once the ecological fencing in is completed, the Comprehensive Management could be started in the dune, with works for the eradication of invasive exotic plants and subsequent replanting of indigenous flora.
|
|
The project for the reconditioning of the Maritime-Terrestrial Public Domain includes also measures to be taken in the dunes “Las Chapas”, as well as the development of pedestrian trails between the beach restaurants “Tony’s” and “El Laurel”, that will be linked to the already existing trails in the dune of “La Vibora” in Elviria.
It is with initiatives of this kind that our Association is struggling to preserve the last dunes systems in the Municipality of Marbella; guaranteeing their survival it represents a natural heritage of huge value, even in spite of the mass development of housing estates. |

One step away from getting . . .
THE DESIGNATION AS “ NATURAL MONUMENT”
We are very pleased to inform all the members of the Association and friends of the dunes that, by virtue of the regulations, and as our Association had submitted the dossier for cataloguing in the year 2004, the dunes “La Adelfa”, of approximately 4,5 hectares, have passed yet another test on the road to being designated as “Natural Monument”.
The local Government board has promoted its approval fot this project for the preservation of the dunes “La Adelfa” in Bahía de Marbella, which will be ratified by the next Plenary Session of the Local city council of Marbella . This project will be supported and defended at the Consejería of the Environment of the autonomous Government to be designated as “Natural Monument”. With this measure, for which our Association has been struggling with tenacity for nearly 6 years, we will achieve a total protection of this interesting dunes area, and by means of this designation guaranteeing this legacy for future generations, keeping them safe from any attempted abuse with profit-making goals.
Earlier on (December 2008), our proposal had been submitted to the Provincial Council for the Environment and Bio-diversity of Malaga, who had granted a Favourable Report for the cataloguing.
The Law 42/2007, of the 13th of December, for Natural Wealth and Bio-diversity, enacted and published in the B.O.E. (Official State Gazette) nº 299 of 14/12/2007, determines that, according to the natural wealth items to be protected, natural areas are classified in different protection categories, amongst which there is “Natural Monument” for those natural areas with formations of notorious uniqueness or landscaping beauty fore which they deserve a special protection. The Technical Report proposed and submitted by our Association to the Environmental Administration justifies in technical terms the designation as “Natural Monument” of the dunes La Adelfa, in the Municipality of Marbella.
We hope that all our members and friends of the dunes realize the great value and importance it represents for Bahia de Marbella that this unique dunes area is designated “Natural Monument” and which will be a natural inheritance for ever. |

THE SEA MOVES IN . . .
These valuable dunes areas with its eco-systems act as a protective fence against the swell and surge of the sea. Regretfully, year after year, storms and ocean currents reduce the dunes mass by 1 to 2 m.
It, therefore, is everyone’s responsibility to watch over the last dunes still left along the Andalusian coast, in order to prevent their destruction by human negligence. The lack of respect is entailing the fast destruction of those systems and uprooting the dunes flowers will accelerate the disappearance of the natural vegetation and with it the natural fixing of the dunes.
We also invite all the Administrations involved in the preservation of the dunes, be they national, regional or local, that they might act with responsability and be aware that it is essential to protect the last dunes systems, to everyone’s benefit. |

PEDESTRIAN WOODEN PATHS ALONG THE DUNES “LA ADELFA” OF
According to the information we received from the Coastal Demarcation Andalucía-Mediterráneo Authorities and the Provincial Department for the Environment the fragile eco-systems of the dunes in Bahía de Marbella will finally be protected this coming summer by the installation of pedestrian wooden bridges that will enable to promenade along the dunes “La Adelfa” of Bahía de Marbella, as well as ease the pedestrian access to the beach, blocking all motorized traffic. With these measures, the survival and preservation of the flora and wildlife of these valuable dunes area is guaranteed, promoting the free and spontaneous development of the valuable indigenous flora.
With this environmental recovery project that had been promised years ago, will culminate the multiple and continuous efforts of our Association to enlist the support from the Administrations for the preservation of one of the last dunes area. Its valuable eco-systems were recovered thanks to the continuous work carried out by the members of the Association and the hard work in raising the awareness of the citizens that enjoy the privilege of wandering through these dunes of outstanding beauty.
It is everyone’s task to preserve and protect nature and it represents an exceptional value for the Municipality of Marbella.

PART OF THE DUNES “EL BARRONAL DE LA MORENA” WILL BE DEVELOPED. . .
according to the initial approval given by the local cabinet of the Town Hall of Marbella, of the 10th of November. The arguments of our Association will be submitted in a timely and adequate manner so that our demands are quite clear, and will not fall into oblivion, after having explained to all the Administrations involved our well grounded reasons to prevent the disappearance of this large dune - unique in shape and wealth of flora and fauna in the municipality of Marbella – appealing to the sensitivity and good will of our rulers through the submission of over 1,600 signatures of supporters and nature lovers.
Even though we are conscious that the Law is on the side of the company intending to develop this large dune, we strongly believe that there are sufficient means and legal measures to reach an agreement between the parties that will enable a consensus between nature and mortar.
We put all our trust in the well doing of the Administrations and their promises to guarantee the necessary steps to extend the dune preservation some 200 m to the north, and thus safeguard a dune that deserves to be protected and defended by all the citizens. We are convinced that the Town Hall is willing to contribute with green area to the dunes area, and the demarcations will be respected by the ‘Coastal Demarcation’ office thanks to our passionate defence; without our knowledge of the Coastal Law they would have been gobbled up and incorporated to the development project.
Our demands are firm and protective so that the flora and fauna wild life can thrive again in this beautiful sand dune environment. We therefore demand that the access to the beach is only for pedestrian use, with floating bridges made of wood, so it won’t prevent the growth of the scrub and respect the peculiar existing orography. At the same time, it has been agreed that the whole dune will be fenced in with wooden stakes to ensure that no motor vehicle ever (or lorry or bulldozers) gains access to it. We are all called upon to preserve those last nature redoubts – we need the cooperation of everyone. |

ECO-TOURISM AND GUIDED TOURS THROUGH THE DUNES OF BAHÍA DE MARBELLA
For the first time during the summer of 2009, the Association started an eco-tourism programme with foreign tourists through the dunes “La Adelfa”, pioneer and unique in the Municipality of Marbella, to arouse another kind of tourism of the “Costa del Sol”; to be based on the awareness and sensibility for a nature which is able to grow year for year, in despite of the great human pressure and constructions of the zone. These guided tours have been very well received and gained popularity.
This idea has given us good ground in widening the knowledges about the work and activities we carry out, to promote the protection and preservation of the indigenous fauna and flora of these dunes, located so close to Marbella. The wide range of wild and indigenous flora that one comes across along these strolls is supported by photographic documents and it could spur the wish to take part in the protection of these areas of fragile nature.

OUR MOST SINCERE THANKS! Up to date, the Pro Dunas Association has submitted and registered the document with over 1.600 Signatures collected, addressed to the Mayoress of the Town Hall of Marbella as well as to the Delegate of the Provincial Environment Department and also to the department of Demarcation of the Coast Andalucía-Mediterráneo. We entrusted them the mission to defend the preservation of this jewel of dune and have placed all our trust in our politicians and leaders in power, in the belief that they will acknowledge the value of the petition of the citizens, and will give maximum protection to this bio-diversity . * * * * * |

The citizens demand the preservation of one of the last natural redoubts that have so far survived the atrocious process of urban development that has prevailed on the Andalusian coast for a long time. Let us trust that our leaders will listen to the voice of the people and take a sharp turn to save this dune jewel of Barronal de la Morena. We are receiving reports on wide spread presence of VERTEBRATES – BIRDS – REPTILES AND MAMMALS FAUNA, that have (had) their habitat in these dunes of “Barronal de la Morena”, including species that have already been catalogued as “in danger of extinction” in the Red Book of Vertebrate Animals Under Threat in Andalucia (Regional Ministry for the Environment 2001). |

Coastal Bathing Waters Sanitary Watch Network of the Regional Health Ministry Bahía de Marbella / Los Monteros
We are pleased to inform that there is a Support Mechanism from the Environmental Health Department of the Health District of the Costa del Sol in Marbella, who officially collect and analyze water samples every fortnight from June to September (summer bathing season), as well as just before the Easter Week. The official sample collection Station is located at the height of the pumping station on the beach of the Los Monteros area. This support of analysis is indicated more for health components than for environment matters.
We find this data collection very interesting and necessary, as it guarantees a safe bathing for all beach goers in the area of Bahia de Marbella / Los Monteros, as there was an initial report that indicated that the quality of the bathing waters is VERY GOOD QUALITY for the summer season of 2009.
We therefore kindly ask, to report any unusual incidence you may become aware of, so the matter can be dealt with, without delay. |

DAY OF COASTAL ACTION AND CLEANING OF “LA ADELFA” BEACH – BAHÍA DE MARBELLA
Preservation, improvement of the environment and raising public awareness on the environmental issues
This year the Pro Dunas Association - belonging to the Volunteers Network for the Environment of the Andalusian Coast, of the Regional Ministry for the Environment - organizes this active Day of Coastal Action at “La Adelfa” beach of Bahia de Marbella (Marbella), counting on the assistance of the Association “Ben-al-Mare”, who will cooperate with the cleaning of the beach. As a special contribution will be their practical demonstration of a cleaning of the sea bottom through diving. Members of the Malaga Surfing Club will also participate in this day, and will be teaching a practical surfing lesson. The Office for the Environment of the Town Hall of Marbella will provide a tent and tables for the event and we may count with the participation of Environmental Technicians from the Town Hall. The “Aula del Mar”, Malaga, will be providing educational material.
With this Day we intend to raise public awareness and inform the general public and the Residents visiting the beach on that day, that we must take care of the coast, by actively setting the example by collecting cigarette buds and other rubbish left behind on the beach. An information stand at the beach will enable us to inform on the environment of the coast.

WOODEN STAKES IN THE DUNES AREA OF BAHÍA DE MARBELLA
The department for Demarcation of Coastline in cooperation with the Regional Ministry for the Environment have installed again a line of wooden stakes in the dunes area, in order to prevent the circulation of motor vehicles and quads inside the dunes area of Bahia de Marbella. We have submitted a request to declare this dunes area as:
“Natural Monument – Bahía de Marbella”
This initiative is made possible by the support from: The Regional Ministry of the Environment, Department of Demarcation of the Coastline, and the Town Hall of Marbella.
We would appreciate it if these measures of protection are respected, so the indigenous flora may thrive and increase their habitat year by year. Its natural growth is an invaluable asset for this dunes area and it must be protected and preserved by all of us.

ERADICATION OF INVASIVE EXOTIC PLANTS AND RESTORATION OF THE COASTAL HABITAT IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF MARBELLA
The dunes area of Bahia de Marbella as others east of the Municipality of Marbella are starting to be acknowledged as an “asset to be protected” and deservedly so, by the different Authorities. To this end, we have joined the efforts of of the Regional Ministry for the Environment and the Town Hall of Marbella under the active collaboration of our Association.
Jointly we have developed a support work interventions program, necessary as it goes beyond the capacity of our Association due to the volume of vegetation and which the Association had been demanding for a long time. These works will be carried out during the month of April with the task of re planting over 2000 young plants.
In a second phase, once approved by the General Management of Natural Environment, the works for the building of the wooden structures will start to give better protection to the surrounding areas, such as: floating footbridges, Texan wooden fence, enclosures, etc. The aim is to provide better protection in order to favour the growth of the natural indigenous vegetation in this environment.
We are thankful to the two Bodies for their involvement in these initiatives to support this unique place, worthy of being preserved for ever.

GRAFFITI ON THE INFORMATION BOARDS
On a regular bases, the members of our Association have to perform the unpleasant task of removing the Graffiti painted on the information Boards that are located in the dunes of Bahia de Marbella.
Much to our regret the information Boards of the Association have to be replaced regularly because of the irreparable damage they suffer when removing the paint. We denounce these acts of vandalism, which are nothing but the useless expression of boredom of some.
We wonder: is it possible to raise awareness among those that carry out these graffiti on the boards or those that tear out plants? |

LETTER OF ACKNOWLEDGEMENT vrom the Regional Ministry for the Environment and “Aula del Mar”
to the Pro Dunas Association, for taking part year after year in the programs: Coastwatch “Cuidemos la Costa”, which we extend to all our “friend of the dunes”.
During the “Coastwatch” days, which take place on the same date on all European Coastal Areas, projects for participation and environmental education are developed, with the objective to: Promote the care and protection of the coastline and the marine environment, through participatory acquisition of information on the environmental conditions along the coastline.
These campaigns would not be possible without the volunteers that participate freely, selflessly and without compensation, dedicating part of their time to the improvement of the environment.
Therefore, the Regional Ministry for the Environment and the Technical Secretariat acknowledge our loyalty and devotion as also our dedication to this project that after seven years in operation with all kinds of associations, helps to analyze the environmental conditions of our coastal area, through the collection and analysis of data.

ACTIVE SUPPORT FROM THE MACRO-COMMUNITY OF BAHIA DE MARBELLA FOR THE CLEANING TASKS IN THE DUNES
Our Association welcomes with great satisfaction the pleasant and warmly applauded as well as long-awaited support and collaboration from the Macro-Community of the Urbanization Bahia de Marbella.
The cleaning team will include as part of its duties the weekly supervision of the 3 “Sanecan’ containers located in the dunes, as well as change the pet droppings collection bags, and the individual small bags that are available to those walking their dogs so they can collect the droppings of their pets.
We are thankful for and value positively the support of the Macro-Community and their willingness to collaborate with our Association in keeping clean the dunes of Bahia de Marbella.
From our side, we continue to appeal to dog owners for their active cooperation, so the dunes do not deteriorate due to dog droppings, as it is detrimental for the growth of wild vegetation.
-Our wish is that the dunes area can continue to be enjoyed by everyone -

RUBBLE AND DOG-EXCREMENTS - APPEAL to EVERYONE
The summer holidays have come to an end, bringing back some peace to the area of the dunes, where nature has regrettably suffered the abuse and pressure from people for weeks, to a much greater extent this year than ever before.
Luckily, and we acknowledge the understanding in this case, this year we have not had to regret such incidents as fires, nor have we had to complain about BBQs or unauthorized bonfires in the dunes, or the “Las Adelfas” beach of Bahia de Marbella.
On the other hand we have had sadly to ascertain the lack of cooperation from many dog owners, who, quite consciously, leave the droppings of their pets in the dunes, out of laziness or carelessness even if well aware that the Association has bags at their disposal. Why can they not be sensitive during their holidays and willing to respect the fragile nature of the area?
We are also very saddened by the unusual meanness or slackness of some, who have dropped in the dunes the rubble from the renovation works in their properties, leaving large amounts of cement and stones, instead of disposing of these materials in the correct way, with due respect to others.
A large number of our Members participate in the Day for the Eradication of the Invasive Highway Ice Plant, year after year, with a great sense of responsibility and much willingness to care for and preserve nature. Nevertheless, the lack of cooperation from other people, who seem not to realize the damage they cause to themselves and most of all to this haven that we have the privilege to enjoy, and they cause the irreversible destruction of the native flora with their regrettable actions. Because of this lack of respect, the Association have been forced to enlist the help of third parties to carry out a thorough clean up of the dunes area of Bahía de Marbella with the considerable financial investment that it requires.
Given all of the above, we want to launch an appeal to everybody, inviting them to participate, by means of an educational action, to raise awareness whenever necessary. We all have the legal authority to watch over and demand the respect of a part of nature that is totally dependent on our benevolence and appreciation for its survival.
- Together we can guarantee the protection of these dunes - |

Day of Cleaning up AND ERADICATION OF THE INVASIVE PLANT Highway Ice Plant / Red Hottentot (Carpobrotus edulis), in the dunes of Bahia de Marbella, Marbella 21st August, 2008 Once more summer, the Association has called upon its Members and nature lovers to participate in the cleaning up works for the eradication of this invasive plant, to protect the indigenous flora of the dunes.
The participation has been massive and with great enthusiasm, from children, teenagers, and adults alike; all took part in this task with great joy. In a very short time we had filled up over 40 big sacs, clearing up a wide surface on the dunes, so the indigenous flora may thrive again.
We thank most heartily everyone for their participation, in all solidarity, in this event. |

HELICHRYSUM STOECHAS(Curry plant) + NATIONAL PLAN OF FIRE PREVENTION PROGRAMMES
Every summer, from June to October, huge efforts are made, included our Association, to protect nature from potential disasters caused by fire.
|
|
|
Therefore, it is worth to continue preserving and respecting the entire indigenous flora that there is in our sand dunes area, such as is the case of the Curry plant (Helichrysum stoechas).
This wild flower is protected and must not be used for commercial purposes. Harvesting its flower condemns it to fulminant death.
We ask everyone to help protect this plant, which provides us with an exuberant blooming, if we let it grow and develop its biological cycles to full term. It also contributes to the stabilization of the dunes, giving shelter to a variety of fauna |

XV WEEK OF THE SEAS 2008 – “PRESERVATION OF COASTAL HABITATS” Institute for the Education of Port Communities - Málaga 15th of April 2008
Our Association was invited to participate in this seminar as a guest of the “Aula del Mar” (Classroom of the Sea) as speakers. We had thus the opportunity to reach a young audience and University students and present to them an account of the work of our Association and our dealings with the different Administrations involved. Our account was backed by graphic reports, photographs taken by members of our Association, as graphical evidence of our actions constantly carried out over the last few years, to the benefit of the preservation of the dunes areas of the Municipality of Marbella, as well as the protection of their fauna and flora.
Our Account was addressed directly to those attending the seminar, requesting their active participation in the protection of nature as leaders of the younger generations.
The audience attending this seminar acknowledged the selfless yet very necessary labour of our Association, in its eagerness to protect nature in our environment. |

4th action of reforestation Upon request from our Association, the Regional Ministry for the Environment of the Junta de Andalucia has just delivered to us, once more, over 200 seedlings. These are to be planted in the dunes area of the 2 estates: Reserva de los Monteros and Bahía de Marbella, in front of the Owners Community Las Arenas.
This is the fourth action we have taken towards reforestation of the area. |
La Reserva de los Monteros |

We kindly ask all the Members of our Association and supporters of our cause, to help us raise the awareness among visitors and passers-by, of the relevance of preserving the plants, both the wild flowers, as well as the planted seedlings. Regretfully there are still some people who seem to enjoy tearing out and destroying this vegetation. We have put a lot of time and effort in preserving the existing vegetation and planting new seedlings for the reforestation of these areas, over the last two years, and we need to protect from the actions of thoughtless people.
We thank you for your cooperation |

The appropriate Administrations must find an urgent solution to the beach narrowing and beach loss as well as loss of dunes area that is going on year after year, along the costal line, particularly in the area of Los Monteros and Bahia de Marbella. We have submitted a formal complaint with a report to the Regional Office for the Environment - Demarcation of the Coastline, as well as to the department of the Environment of the Town Hall of Marbella, in the hope that our repeated complaints on this relevant and regrettable phenomenon will finally be heeded. The Association has promoted the preservation and protection of the few dunes that still exist in the area of the "Reserva de los Monteros" Urbanization in Marbella. This area is included in the project already submitted to the Ministry of the Environment, to declare it a Natural Monument.
We have had meetings with the Delegate of the department of Demarcation of Coastline of Mediterranean Andalucia, and with the Delegation of the Environment at the Deputy Mayor Office of Puerto Banus, of the Town Hall of Marbella, and we can be very pleased with the fast and positive results we have achieved.
Over a few weeks time, the department of Demarcation of the Coastline has installed wooden stakes at the two demarcation lines of the dunes area, thus clearly marking the area, as well as preventing the passage of motorized vehicles. Two pedestrian gates were installed on each end of the dunes.
An exhibition panel from the Ministry of the Environment informs the passers-by and our Association has installed two signposts indicating it is an Ecological Natural Site.
We trust that all of us will value this new project, and that joining our forces we continue to protect the beautiful coastline of Marbella.
In the autumn our Association will submit the appropriate request to the Office of the Environment for plants and plants sprouts, and in a few years time these dunes will be fully recovered thanks to the indigenous flora.
We take this opportunity to warmly thank all the individuals and authorities involved in this project. |

During August three seals (Cystophora cristata) and a young dolphin (Delphinus delphis) were beached. They have been taken to the Recovery Centre CREMA in Malaga to be treated and cared for.
Several biology students as also members of our Association, are caring for and feeding them. After a month of tube feeding, the dolphin is now able to eat fish (being fed every two hours) .
This is the first time that very young captive animals have survived at CREMA. We are pleased to be able to follow their recovery.
Our turtle "Adelfa" is also recovering well. The danger of infection has now past and the hole in its large shell is healing well. Once sealed, it will be able to be returned to the sea. |

The Environment Department and the Andalusia-Mediterranean Coast Demarcation Department are erecting "No vehicle access" and "No parking" signposts as well as wooden poles marking the areas where vehicles are not permitted, whilst allowing free pedestrian access from the roundabouts to the beach. With these measures it will be made clear to everyone that the Dunes are to be preserved for the enjoyment of all who walk through them and enjoy their natural beauty. The flora will also benefit from these measures. They are very fragile and affected by drought as well as man's actions. We must endeavour to preserve the delicate balance of the native flora which have survived the severe drought we have seen this winter.
We are grateful to the Ministries involved and particularly to the people who have made it possible to preserve the Dunes for the future.

18.1.2006-The dolphins have arrived at Bahia de Marbella beach.
|
This morning at 8:30 a large school of dolphins enjoyed a banquet of
sardines just by "our" beach. We were overjoyed to be able to photograph
them after so many instances of beached dolphins which subsequently died (14
cases since July 2005). |

The rains have arrived. Thanks to this winter weather and with the collaboration of the Environment and Coastal Departments we can proceed with the planting programme for the Dunes in a 1 km by 60 metres area. We will also be placing markers at the entrances to the Dunes to avoid vehicles entering the area from the beach and to allow only pedestrian access. Unfortunately the areas already planted have suffered damage from cars, quads and even horses. |

CLEANING THE DUNES FROM DOGS’ EXCREMENT
The Association has been obliged to clean up the beach periodically from dogs’
excrement and we are disappointed that there is so little collaboration from the
public, considering that we all have the right to enjoy a pleasant walk in the
Dunes without putting your foot in IT!
We are appealing to pet owners to pick up and dispose of their “best friend’s” mess and this is facilitated by the 3 easily accessible SANECAN containers which also provide plastic bags.
All users and particularly the native flora will benefit from your cooperation.

SIGHTING OF DOLPHIN POPULATION For statistics reasons we request your help by reporting to us any sighting of dolphins, about 2-3 miles inside the sea, giving us: number of adult/young, date and time of sighting as also the direction: towards East or West. Actually they can be seen from 9am until 9:30pm because of the big lot of sardines. This will help establish the environment status of this area and we would be glad about your participation and thank you in advance. |

Collaboration day in the Dunes - Please entry in your Agenda: Autumn 2005
Conversations with Environment Ministry and Aula de Mar have been initiated to allow the Association to participate in the programme “Coastal Volunteer Network” relating to the “Elimination of invasive vegetation” as there is a no native specie called “cats claw” growing in the Dunes which has to be eliminated by technical support of a Forestry Officer. We will try to organize this working journey in August and would very much appreciate a massive collaboration of our members. Drinks and sandwiches will be offered

Letter brought to the Delegate of the Environment-Ministry of the Andalusian Government requesting the direct intervention of the Ministry, due to our well founded suspicion that the Town Council (Ayuntamiento) has allowed Bahia de Marbella to be omitted from the proposal for the revised PGOU (General Plan for Urban Development), which is being prepared under the direction of the Architect, Mr. Manuel Fustegueras.

Letter brought to the Coast-Ministry asking their legal department to clarify the yuxtaposed definitions of the Law 22/1988 of 28th July, Royal Decret 1471/1989, Art. 68.2. We are awaiting their answer.
7.4.2005
We have brought a letter to the Environment Ministry of the Andalusian Government, Department of Flora and Fauna asking for their guidance as to how to proceed to stop people collecting natural camomile herbs from the Dunes for commercial purposes. February storms cause landslides in the Dunes of Bahia de Marbella. The Association has sent a report with photographic evidence to the relevant Authorities requesting urgent action due to the magnitude of the damage and the potential danger to residents and visitors. We have requested that the Macro-community installs safety fencing around the damaged zones, and conducts a study ahead of the holiday season as to how to ensure people’s personal safety. We have also pointed out that new sand should be imported to repair the damaged areas leaving the undamaged areas untouched. |

storm - Positive reactions -
Following our petition, the
Beach Department of the Ayuntamiento de Marbella has promised to repair all the
areas damaged by the storms. We welcome such a positive response and look
forward to seeing the work completed.

Cleaning of the Dunes - Our name Pro Dunas means we must ensure that the Dunes' Flora and Fauna are able to flourish. The best start is to make sure it is free of all rubbish. The Association has therefore organised the cleaning of the Dunes. Four men have spent two days removing stones and constructors' rubble. We have complained to the Ayuntamiento de Marbella, who failed to contribute 50% of the costs as promised, but thanks to the support of our members we have achieved our goal.
7.2.2005
TRAIN-STATION We have been informed by the Representative of the Public Works Department of the Andalusian Government that the Territorial Development Plan (POT = Plan de Ordenación Territorial) proposes a Train Station to be built in front of the Costa del Sol Hospital, which would be a major improvement in Public Services for the residents of Bahía de Marbella. This is a very welcome development for everyone in this region
20.1.2005
TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM - Today we have established the basis for the Technical Memorandum in conjunction with two Experts from the Andalusian Environment Department. We start now the serious scientific study which will underpin our case for the total protection of the Dunes and its eco-systems.
17.1.2005
With reference to the publication in the Press of the 10th January 2005 referring to the new Territorial Ordnance Plan for the Costa del Sol (POT) and to avoid any surprises in the preparation of the new Plan, we have made our allegations to the following official Departments:
-Public Works Department of the Andalusian Government, and
-Urban Development Department
making it clear to them that we are preparing the Technical Memorandum with the purpose of obtaining the Denomination of: “Nature Monument” and that any decree must ensure that our area of the Dunes must continue to be protected and any proposal in the new territorial Plan that runs against the interests of the existing eco-systems will meet with our total rejection

Our aim for 2005 is: “NATURAL MONUMENT” for Bahía de Marbella
In 2005 we are faced with the most demanding task: to prepare a Technical Memorandum to obtain from the Environment Ministry in Madrid, the Classification of ”Natural Monument” for the Dunes in Bahía de Marbella. This takes the form of a Government Decree and must be published in the B.O.E. (the Official Government Bulletin).
The Environment Department (Consejería de Medio Ambiente) of the Andalusian Government (Junta de Andalucía) has kindly attended our petition and will provide a Technical Expert in Environmental matters to ensure the Memorandum complies with all the data and information required to achieve our purpose. We need to collect data on the Topography of the Dunes, a Photographic Report with colour slides, Cartographies 1:10.000 and 1:50.000, Classification of the native Flora and much more.
JANUARY 2005
We begin the New Year very pleased with the progress achieved so far, in particular the four major issues that have been resolved in the last quarter of 2004
1º - PGOU (Plan General de Ordenación Urbanística): A new classification
for the protection of the Dunes in Bahía Marbella has been proposed for
the revised PGOU
2º - No more Concessions or Licences for the building of Restaurants,
“Chiringuitos” or Kiosks on the beach “La Adelfa” of Bahía de Marbella
3º - No more annual hunting of Finches (song birds) in the area between
Cabo Pino and Bahía de Marbella
4º - Fines have been issued by the Police to motorists trespassing on the
protected Dunes of the Beach "La Adelfa"

Meeting with the Coast Department (Demarcación de Costa, Andalucía-Mediterráneo, Málaga)
The meeting from the 9th December 2004 with the person in charge of the Coast-Department (Delegado de Costas) has been very fruitful and positive.
He declared that having examined our petition, they have decided NOT to grant any Concessions or Licences to allow the establishment of any Restaurants or Chiringuitos in in the area of Bahia de Marbella, nor the opening of any street along the front line of the 3 Communities and the single houses.
They are fully aware of our concerns and wish to preserve the Flora and Fauna in the Dunes. They will even carry out a study as to how to maintain and improve this area and the accesses to the beach. Furthermore, they will look into the possibility of moving the roundabouts further back to comply with the Coast Law (the roundabouts are inside the "Public Domain Maritimo-Terrestre").
It is possible that by 2007 wooden paths might be built to protect the native Flora and allow its natural growth and development.
We have received their letter confirming these facts for our own peace of mind. Nevertheless they suggest we continue our campaign demanding that the Dunes are declared a “Paraje Natural” by the Environment Ministry thus ensuring the total protection of the area. For that purpose we asked the Environment-Department of the Andalusian Government for an urgent meeting.
It has been a very positive day for Bahia de Marbella, for our Association and for everyone involved in this project.
